Corporate Edition
If you are a large corporation with hundreds of employees and multiple locations, perhaps you have already purchased
Data Replication
(DR) or Continuous Data Protection (CDP) software to provide real-time protection for your
critical data
stored on the Servers. If not, and you are still doing Nightly Scheduled Backups,
RTB software
is your
best backup solution. It provides
real-time
data backup and costs
thousands of dollars less than DR or CDP software.
Since the DR or CDP software applications are installed on Servers, they do not provide any protection
for the data stored on employee desktops and laptops.
Storing Employee Data on their Computers
Most large companies let their employees keep their data files on their own desktops/laptops. This is the most
cost effective
and efficient
data storage practice followed around the globe. Each employee is responsible to perform his own data backup
manually. The employees are given choices to backup their data on the company local Servers, external hard drives or Remote Servers.
The
major drawback of this most common data backup practice is that the employees are usually busy and forget to backup their files regularly. Performing data backup is
just not a part of their
daily work routine. Surveys show that
less than 5% of computer users worldwide perform
their backup regularly.
Storing Employee Data on Servers
Many large organizations store their employee data files on the local Servers. The network administrator allocates a folder (a section of the hard drive) on the local Server for each employee. Employees create and save their data files in their allocated folders instead of saving on their own computer hard drive.
The major drawbacks of this data storage system are:
- The Server needs large storage space, which increases the IT costs
- Storage space on employee computer hard drives is not fully utilized
- Employees can face slow-downs in case the local network traffic is heavy, or the network experiences problems, resulting in loss of productivity
- Without a Backup Server, the main Server
becomes the Single-Point-Failure
- Employees are unable to work, if the network/Server goes down resulting in big financial losses
- Restricts employees from using their laptops while traveling,
or working from home
Nightly Scheduled Backup
Since the size of data for large organizations is huge, and the backup process can take hours, almost every company performs an automated daily backup scheduled during the night. Most organizations backup the data on tape drives while a few use Backup Servers.
The biggest RISK of nightly scheduled backup is the loss of entire day’s data in case the Server
CRASHES just before the scheduled time. For the old fashioned
tape backup system, the network administrator has to spend considerable time everyday to manage the tapes and save them in a secure location
RTB Software Advantage
If you let employees store
data files on their own computers, and let RTB software do the real-time backup
on a Local Server, you no longer need a Backup Server, and you overcome all
drawbacks mentioned above.
However, we highly recommend you to take another backup from your local server (by installing RTB on this Server) to a Remote Server outside your Office. This will give you protection against disasters such as theft, flood, fire etc.
RTB SOFTWARE IS CHANGING THE WAY
PEOPLE BACKUP THEIR DATA AROUND THE GLOBE!
Warning ! Student/Home/SMB/Corporate edition will not work properly if you install it on a server and store employee data on the server, instead of storing the data on employee computers.
